Robert Eggers’ next film Nosferatu promises to cause a sensation with its horrific new trailer.

Having revealed its trailer two weeks ago, Robert Eggers’ next film is surely one of the most eagerly awaited of the year. And for good reason: for almost 10 years now, Eggers’ cinema has fascinated audiences with its atmosphere and experimental approach to horror.

With Nosferatu, Eggers adapts one of the best-known horror stories, a story that has crossed time and cinema with multiple adaptations, the most famous being F.W. Murnau’s 1922 adaptation. A work that remains a pillar of German cinema to this day, and a proud representative of German Cinema Expressionism.

On the one hand, I think we can expect Eggers to respect this universe and the filmmakers who came before him, such as Murnau or Herzog, with references to their work. After all, Eggers’ cinema is defined by an ardent authenticity. Whether in The Witch, Lighthouse or The Northman, the filmmaker immerses us in these historical periods with great realism in the sets and costumes, but also in the performances of his actors (we still remember Willem Dafoe’s monologues as a lighthouse keeper in The Lighthouse).

The Nosferatu trailer has the good idea of not showing the Count (played by Bill Skarsgård), but it already allows us to note a very interesting cast, including Lily Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Nicolas Hoult and Aaron Taylor Johnson, but also to rediscover what makes Eggers’ whole universe, a dark, gloomy atmosphere, often characterized by a constant presence around our characters.

Robert Eggers has said that his Nosferatu project fell through twice before going into production, but it’s a good thing he stuck with it, as the film’s universe, references and overall setting seem tailor-made for him. We couldn’t wish for a better director for this project. We hope the film meets with the success it deserves when it is released on December 25.
